Anjea

About Anjea

Anjea is a 12.4m (41') Van de Stadt Norman design built by Aluminium and Steel Yachts on the Clarence River, NSW, Australia.

When I purchased it in 2016 I was the third owner and she was called Sudden Impulse. I added solid rails all around, a transom arch with davits and solar cells, bimini, additional thru hulls and new equipment such as watermaker and 12v refrigeration. I also rechristened her Anjea. We drank the champagne.

Anjea is an Australian Aboriginal spirit who looks after souls between their reincarnations.

About Me

I remember my mother telling me once that I had a birth weight of 9lbs (in the days before Australia metricated, or about 4kg). She said it with a great deal of resentment, as if my weight was somehow all my fault. But there was also a note of pride in her voice, as if the accomplishment was all hers, as indeed it was. These days, I am 1.83m tall, 90kg (less when sailing, more when lazing about at anchor), gray haired (cropped when sailing, long in port), too young to display wisdom, too old to care. The rest you can work out from reading my slogs.

I am a slow learner, unable to take in the world at the pace at which reality unfolds. That's why I write and take pictures. I hope that by taking a picture I can freeze time, catch my breath and grok the moment. And I write because it helps me remember things that are important to me and, hopefully, understand them better. But I am also very aware of you, peering down the internet at this web page I've made. I want you to feel something of what I felt, I want to share my experiences and hope that you derive some enjoyment from them too.
